World War Two era. Some people think the best quality iron ore in Europe came from Germany. It didn't, it came from the Briery (spelling, Briery) range just across the border in France.

I was referring to the french propensity towards using weak elements in the most inopportune places and cutting corners in chinese like fashion. I would have to guess those D pillars came from china. that or the engineers who worked on the cage of that scenic came from north africa.

no, it came from sweden. that's where all the german ball bearing factories got their steel, and bearing steel has to be the best if the bearings are intended to last.

it was a point of substantial contention with the allies because sweden was professing neutrality in ww2, but substantially supporting the nazi war machine with this crucial strategic resource.

dude, a crane fell on it. i don't care what you're driving, aerial crane impact is not part of the design spec. and the suggestion that the french don't design for impact resistance is fundamentally wrong. if you've ever been there and seen the way they drive, and better yet, been to a french junkyard and seen the /results/ of the way they drive, you'll understand that they know how to build a car that keeps their customer base alive.
