max expected exhaust temps in a truck?

For materials that would be in direct contact with the exhaust pipes of a diesel truck or industrial vehicle, what are the temps it will have to handle?

how about a gasoline-powered SUV or van?

Depending on the distance from the engine you can figure temperatures from 1500 degrees down to 100 at the tailpipe.

Gas engine with a converter will run 1500 and the converter will run well over 600.

Stainless steel will discolor as will chrome. Steel itself will run red hot at the manifolds.
