No parking, no driving.

On my lawn, that is.Twice, I have asked my neighbors next door not to park and or drive on my lawn. This morning, that guy next door moved his old Jeep to get behind his girlfriend's car to push her car forward up their driveway, naturally, he drove on my lawn to get behind her car.I guess I am going to have to put some sort of a fence or barricade on my yard near their driveway.I don't want my lawn being torn up.My water meter cover plate, I can see the tire track where he drove right over the cover plate. The top of my water meter valve touches the underside of the cover plate. It is very likely my water line can/will get broken by people driving over the cover plate.Any suggestions about a quick simple fence or barricade/whatever? cuhulin

Man, you got one helluva neighbor!

Solution is easy, what city parks (NYC) do to keep the riffraff picnicers from driving their vans full of furniture/steroes right into the picnic area:

Rocks/boulders.

They use some biggies (few hundred pounds), but anywhere from 25 to 75 # is something the avg car won't want to go over, esp. 75#. A 75# rock is mebbe 12" diam, if it were a sphere.

They can actually be very decorative, attractive, and.... free! We use them for landscaping terraces, etc. All types, varieties: round/smooth, square/rect, etc. The square/rect ones allow a rough stacking, as well, for a kind of wall. Or even a real wall, iffin you want to really get into it.

If you find a source for the stones (dump, park (sometimes they are just in the way in a jogging path or sump, not suggesting theft), construction site, a neighbor renovating/landscaping, etc.), it's like a 5 min to 1 hr job, depending on how artsy you're feeling.

HD carries a plastic landscapers edging, which just pounds/presses in, and can stick up mebbe 6", which might give a hint to your neighbor.

Or a cheap 3' picket fence.

Another idea is to string long horizontal baling wire between trees or posts, and let ivy grow up, as a kind natural barrier. This takes a while to grow in, but it can also be made quite tall.

Shrubs is another alternative, but they can be pricey, and be prepared to soak yer back.

Depends on how obnoxious they are. I'd suggest planting a long strip flower garden, like 1' wide x whatever length, some weed block fabric, assorted flowers planted along it and some nice mulch or marble chips. It will look nice and deter drive overs.

In September right after Hurricane Katrina, a divorced woman lived in that house next door to me.About a year later, her divorced twin sister moved in with her. They never bothered to ask me if they can park their cars on my lawn, they did it anyway.Maybe I will put some post in my yard in line about every eight/ten feet apart from each other and some bird houses on top of the posts.Maybe heavy iron posts. If they bang their cars up on the posts, it wouldn't be my fault. cuhulin

check your local codes enforcement on driving cars on non paved surfaces. Some areas won't tolorate that even if it's their own yard. A letter from the city may help them to stop.

The guy down the alley from me has a 3 ft x 3 ft rock strategically placed at the spot where needed. I did see some bumper paint on it once, but the grass around it looks really good.

The City of Confusion I live in, I doubt big rocks are allowed in yards.Maybe if I check the local scrap iron (Metal Recycling Centers) yards around here I might find some big iron/steel pipes.I want to put up something (in my yard) that will definetely mess up anybody's vehicles if they drive on my my yard. cuhulin

Document, document, document. Take notes, take pictures. Who, where, when, how. You cannot do anything outside of the justice System that would make them feel bad. USA is a nation run by and for lawyers and you must use the System against your neighbors. Consult with a local atty. before proceeding any further. If you don't, then your neighbors may use the System against you and it will cost you $5000 for attorney fees.

As if we didn't have enough lawyers already.

To the OP, take a little stroll out in your yard at 2:00 AM with a running garden hose and see if they have a locking gas cap on their vehicle. A few times to the repair shop and they'll see things different.

That's actually a really good idea.

I would look for some pieces of 4-6" drain pipe, knock/bury that into the ground 2-3 feet, then put a tall post/pipe in that to hold the bird feeders.

I would try to fashion some kind of "reducing bushing" so you could get the pole out easily, to make tending the bird feeder(s) easier. Mebbe take a smaller pipe, concrete or gravel that in the drain pipe, and just slide the post in/out of that.

Or, put 4x4 or 6x6 posts in, drill out the center for a pole, or attach a mounting bracket, etc.

In addition to a bird feeder, a bird bath is nice, too. Mebbe surveillance camera. :)

I would reduce the spacing, tho, as 8-10 ft might still give your neighbors temptation. Mebbe make one post high, the next medium high, the next high, etc.

LOL! I KNEW there'd be a response from somebody who parks in a neighbor's parking spot. Your vehicle has been repeatedly keyed and your neighbors hate you, don't they?

No they don't. Unlike you. Your parents hide you in their basement at least.

A month or so after Huricane Katrina, a divorced woman from Natchez who works for Bell South (it's AT&T nowadays, but I still call it Bell South.

Julie Emerick Bell South) bought that house next door to me.Not long after that, her twin sister Jeri moved in with her.

Jeri works offshore for Shell Oil Company. They are tomboys, they work on their own vehicles, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, ect. Then later on, two of their divorced girlfriends moved in with them. They used to park their vehicles on my yard too, but I didn't mind so much because they are so much fun.

Julie sold that house about a year ago.The divorced gal and her boyfriend who now live in that house next door to me really are nice.I already have two ten feet long pressure treated 4'' x 4''s I bought last year.I was going to use them to repair a big old shed that I had to tear down (last year) because the city got on my arse about that.I reckon I will buy a few more 4'' x 4''s. cuhulin

You could try what my neighbor used to do. Put a road cone with a steel post hidden inside it. Thoughtless neighbors (me ;) think it's just a cone and don't mind bumping it, till it dents their car.

When I was in high school, I had a friend who's parents had a Toyota Corona MKII Station Wagon. It was a neat car and we used to go joyriding whenever we could.

For some reason, he hated this guy on a road on the other side of town. Being a rural area, there were mailboxes by the road. We'd be going along, he'd put his head down and WHAM! take this guy's mailbox out I think it was a teacher at his school or something.

One day I see him walking, and I said, Hey, where's the Toyota? He just shook his head and groaned, and never said anything.

A few days later I see his brother. What's up with the car?

Mike was going down the road, put his head down, aimed for the mailbox and BAANG!!!!!!!!!! Loud crash, crumpling metal...

The guy built this real nice wood post, very ornate, to hold his mailbox.

He also dug about 6 feet down, put in a 3" lead pipe, and filled it with cement. THEN he built the nice wooden post around it...

Amusing, but illegal in most areas. Anything in right-of-way (which usually extends past the pavement) must be impact-friendly. Could just as easily be a distracted mommy with a car full of rug rats hitting that immovable object. Not to mention the busted snowplows if the snow drifts are real deep.
