non-shiny tire dressing?

Does anyone still make matte finish tire dressing? I used the last of my old bottle (Meguiar's) and none of my local stores carry anything but "SUPER ULTRA WET SHINY" tire goo. I just want something to keep them black and matte as opposed to grey-brown, I think shiny tires look ricey.

Isn't "clean" sufficient?

On the tire subject - BFG "Rugged Trail" tires suck in mud. I got my new F350 stuck in the mud in my back yard yesterday while trying to get the truck into my shop to finish fabricating camper brackets. I never had a problem with the BFG All Terrain tires I have on my other truck. The Ford complimentary roadside (drivewayside?) assistance managed to winch it back to pavement at least.

somewhat... I guess due to ozone or something new tires only retain that nice dark blackness for a couple weeks at best, after that they turn decidedly grey-brown, putting some tire dressing on them does improve the appearance significantly. "it's the little things" I guess...

It has to do with some of the things they had to remove from tires in order to be 'environmentally friendly'. While it does make the tire more easily recyclable, most folks around here just use old tires to cover up their 'compost'* piles...

I am very old fashioned, but would still give RuGlyde a try.. (But I would make it myself).

It is nothing more than a potassium soap, dissolved in water. The bichromate mentioned in the formula can be forgotten...and SHOULD be.

It is just 7% potassium soap in water. It will not damage rubber.

I use STP's "Son of a Gun." It isn't completely matte but it's not ArmorAll's oily shiny look either.

Probably not, but I think the tread life and ride quality will suffer a bit on the highway.

You might want to try Some stuff from NAPA called Ruglyde if they still have it. I am still working on the same gallon I bgought a few years back.. It is intended as a bushing lube and preserver. Mist on the tire and wipe dry after a few minutes and the sidewalls look more natural clean. It is cheap compared to Armorall.

In my local FLAPS a few weeks back and gave it a try. I like it. Water-based, too, so its not slick as owl poop.
