oil pressure switch - mazda

The mechanic called me today and told me that an oil leak I had was caused by a bad oil pressure switch (96 mazda 626, 4 cyl., 90K, auto). Initial internet searches show prices of $3 - $10 for this part. There were going to charge me $15 for the part, and $40 for installation. I'd like to do it myself for $3 instead of $55. Where is this switch located? Sorry - I'm definitely a novice.

There was actually a TSB(Technical Service Bulletin) regarding this problem. Meaning, Mazda reliazed the faulty part, and replaced it with a NEW model.

The old part # was: FS11-18-50X The new part # is : B367-18-501

You MUST use SEALENT and apply it to the threads on the switch.

Mazda lists the following approved SEALENTS:

Sealant ThreeBond: TB1207D or Loctite: Ultra Black 598 (or equivalent)

And, just so you know, the STANARD LABOR RATE for replacing this Switch is ONLY 0.5 Hours! So, unless this shop that you are referring to charges $110/hour, that $55 is pretty steep. However, they are probably including diagnostic time in there with the price.

Anyways, the Oil Pressure Switch is about an inch or two above the Oil Filter, just off-center.
