Re: Chevy pick-up truck

Have you tried getting a code from the computer? You'll really need to find out what error code/codes it has to properly diagnose the problem otherwise it's hit or miss. What may seem like a logical reason for a problem may not be the answer at all, hence, replacing parts that don't need replacing. If you have a manual, it should show how to get the codes otherwise try get one that has the setup and the codes.

A problem like this can caused by many things, but a failure by an ignition part is quite common. The computer is not there only to keep an engine running with high efficiency, but also to prevent it from running at all if there is a failure of any part controlled by the computer. Anyone who has ever worked on Fords and partly grounded a SPOUT circuit will know what I mean. What happens is , unburned fuel builds up in the catalytic converter and when it gets hot enough, well, you may see a nice red glow from the converter as it burns.

As you can guess, getting the error code/codes is really important if you want to repair it properly. Anyone that is going to work on any computer controlled systems should try to learn as much as they can as it is not only a great learning experience, but may save you a big bill. Computers don't like mistakes and can be damaged quite easily.

PS: If you don't have a manual, I can always post the setup and error codes if needed if someone else doesn't first.
