Re: Help Req: Overheating Neon

I have flushed the radiator, replaced hoses, checked the electric

When you changed the coolant, did you go over 50%? Higer concentrations reduce heat transfer.

Take a garden hose and try to flush out insects and other debris from the radiator. Try to flush from the engine side as much as possible.

I had pepboys do a compression test, and they said it was good. The coolant is 50% water/coolant, currently. I have already flushed excess crap out of the radiator, with a high pressure sprayer at one of the local self-wash places. The oil is clean - no residue in it at all. The oil just looks black (its close to 3K miles on the oil). There aren't any bubbles while the cap is off, and the engine is idling. I squeezed the hoses, and kept putting in water/coolant until the radiator was 100% full, with no air in the system.

If water were leaking into the oil, or into the piston (and out of the exhaust), then hopefully one of the 3 mechanic shops would have noticed it. I have begged all 3 shops to figure out why it is overheating, when it did not overheat before.

I thought of the radiator because I understand that Neons have a crappy radiator anyways. Not crappy, but Dodge puts in the smallest radiator they could get away with. A new radiator is supposed to remove from 25-40% more heat than the stock radiator.

Since the car only overheats on super-hot days (over 100 degrees F) when it is travelling really fast on the freeway (over 65 mph), with the AC on, I figured that this piece of crap may need some additional cooling help.

Like I said, no one can help get it fixed so far.

Checked the lower radiator hose to make sure it isn't collapsing at higher RPM (and thus higher suction rate for the water pump)?
