Re: Mercury Sable 89

Hi:

I've been having some major problems with a Mercury Sable 89 vehicle...before it was just the power steering fluid leaking out...now it's got it so that it has to really rev up before changing into the next gear.

I've tried checking the transmission fluid and it's filled past the point where it needs to be...I started having problems right after starting up my car when I wasn't using it for a while...another thing is that it has smoke that comes up a little bit if I've been trying to drive it past 25 miles per hour or so...which I don't think is coming from my radiator since the coolant and water doesn't look like it gets low quickly at all.

It also seams to have a little drip near the front of the car of a liquid that is almost see through and slightly sticky...anyway I don't know a whole lot about cars and am open for suggestions besides getting a new car.

Thanks in advanced for any responses ...and Merry X-mas,

MC

I don't know about your needing a NEW car, but unless some holiday miracle occurs you will soo need ANOTHER car. You briefly described a whole bunch of problems that you are not prepared to fix yourself nor is it feasible even to pay to have them fixed. You have lots of leaks and your transmission sounds like it has failed, maybe the engine as well. That transmission alone is a repair worth more than the vehicle. Take the bus and go shopping. Save yourself the emergency tow bill anyway on this Sable. "A loss quickly taken is half a gain."

Usually the high-pressure line. If so, it's a simple job to replace it.

"Transmission slipping". You might need a rebuilt transmission, or maybe something simple like a new ATF filter. The more you drive it, the more you damage a slipping transmission.

Smoke from the exhaust or somewhere else?

I have no idea.
