Removing baked-on bird crap

Two weeks ago, a bird crapped on my car and at the same time, I left for vacation without washing the vehicle. Now, I've got what appears to be one of two things:

1) An impossible to remove black deposit that's as hard as a rock

2) Bubbling of the (black) paint

Can't tell which because the deposit may have turned the same color as the paint itself. This is an 8 month old Toyota pickup, so I'm trying real hard not to believe bird crap could eat its way through the paint and cause blistering.

I've only tried gentle stuff like car wash soap to remove the deposit. What's the next best step? The finer grade of compounding paste? Suicide?

Thanks for the tip, particularly about the Clay Magic, which sounds like interesting stuff. As you might imagine, I'm trying to make the "new car honeymoon" last for at least the first year. It's tough, though, living in an apartment. No hose, and there are no more of those car washes around here where you work the hand-held wand yourself. So, I can't find a way yet to do detailed sponge work on the truck. Very annoying.
