Speedometer fix?

Speedometer is out for Chevy Avalanche....quick fix?

Nope, Need to scan it and determine if the problem is the buffer or the stepper motor.

Probably a bad stepper motor but test it first. (no there is no way to test it without a scan tool that will talk to the instrument cluster)

Either way you will be pulling the gauge cluster. There are kits to replace the stepper motors, EBAY has lot's of them listed.

Calculate your speed from the gear engaged and engine rpm.

Easiest way would be a GPS that shows speed. The proper repair will likely be a new stepper motor.

No, the easiest way would be to drive as fast as possible. If you get a ticket, you'll be able to provide proof to the judge of a non-working speedometer, so don't worry about being pulled over.
