still life left in a 99 Ford Escort wagon with 180,000 miles?

I am looking to buy a 99 Ford Escort, everything looks great and it runs great, but I am worried about the high mileage. It has just over

180,000 on the original engine. The transmission, a manual, was replaced recently, but I do not have the details. I have seen several of these Escort wagons of similar years for sale with around 180 to 190k miles, but never any higher. Is this about their maximum lifespan for these engines. What do you think? What have you seen?

One thing I've seen is need for the timing belt to be replaced, and the MAF chip gets ready to go out. But, then that isn't much different from most cars with that mileage.

Do they have any maintenance records for the vehicle? If it was driven easily and taken care of it could get you another 100k. If it wasn't taken care of it could be ready for the junk yard in a month... These weren't bad cars but since they are less expensive cars they tend to be owned by people who can't afford to keep up with the oil changes and repairs.
