Taurus Tranny "warranty" ?

Anyone know any details of Ford's "secret warranty" on the (POS) Taurus tranny ?

A buddy of mine has a 1997 with only 55K miles that needs a rebuild (according to the dealer). I know Ford paid for a lot of these repairs in the past but I don't have any current info. Anyone have any details of the issues, or know what buttons to push at Ford ?

Thanks,

Are you a regular customer at a Ford or Lincoln/Mercury dealer? If so, ask them the likelihood Ford will give you assistance. I'm figuring at 7 years, your chances for assistance are pretty close to nonexistent.

With the history, I think it should be covered. You are right, it is a bit old - but Ford won't be getting any more of this guy's money or anyone he talks to if they don't help him out some way.

Here's some coaching. If they are considering helping you and ask you if you will be satisfied if they do x, say yes. The reason they will have asked is that they don't wish to lose their investment. If you say you will not be satisfied, you will likely to get no assistance whatsoever. Again, if you're a frequent customer at a dealer, (even a frequent parts customer that the parts people know), take the car there. They will be the ones most likely to push Ford to give you assistance. If it's the parts people you know, ask them to let the service department know you are a regular customer and put in a good word for you.

Thanks Htech... but I know how to play the game :-) The local dealer, of which this guy is a repeat customer, says "too old, you're out of warranty". What I'm really hoping for is more information on the specific Taurus tranny issue and Ford's coverage, actions, etc.

There's not much more I can give you since I've been out of the Ford loop for quite some time. If you're a regular customer of the dealer and they're telling you that you won't be able to get any assistance, then this probably means they already know the factory rep. will reject it. I know of no policy on Ford's part. You could ask the dealer if they'd present it to the rep, but that's probably the best they can do at this point, unless they're willing to cut you a discount on their own as a gesture on their part to help your satisfaction.

Thanks again.

I did a little web searching. I found quite a few cases (shock, shock) that this guy can use to beat the factory rep with. Maybe he can shake something loose.
