Tempo Wet Floor

Hello,

I have 1990 Ford Tempo, When it rains or snows the drivers side floor gets wet, with standing water on the carpet. I know someone who had a 1988 Topaz with the same problem.

I'm hoping this was a common design flaw and someone here can tell me where I can look to stop this.

At first I thought it might be road spray coming up thru the floor board, but it happens if the car is parked.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Mike

Try checking the parking brake grommet in the fender wall, it worked for me once in a Topaz.

Most likely the drain holes in your fenders are clogged with decomposing leaves, etc. and forcing the water to go into your A/C & heater vent. You need to clean this out periodically and flush with plenty of water, otherwise that front part of your car becomes a mini-compost heap. Unless you regularly park under a tree you probably only have to do this maybe only every 5 years or so.

On a tempo, check the cowl seams. The sealer bubbles up and the seam rusts through underneath. Its a common Tempo problem. Requires removal of the cowl grill to gain access.
