Tie Rod replacement

When replacing tie rods, to what length should they be adjusted to? I have a 97 Chev Suburban C1500 2WD in particular.

Umm, is this a trick question?

They must be 'exactly' the same length as the old one 'if' the alignment was ok.

There is no 'measurement' to set them at, they all are different.

Could be, since asked the same generic question in the Ford group. Maybe he took his old tie rods off before measuring anything. Then he'll have to guess from the old ones and do some tape measuring.

Normally, You would count the threads showing and make sure you have the same number of threads showing when you put on the new ones.

As close as possible to the length of the tie rods that are being removed. And then have it aligned ASAP after getting the new tie rods on.

Exactly. And to assure that you have them right, you should have the alignment checked.
