Topaz brake light permanently on

87 merc. topaz has the brake light always on, even when the parking brake isn't on.

I checked the brake fluid level, the master cylinder is full.

It does handle a bit weird, like one of the brakes is dragging on the wheel?

Is that a brake problem or an electrical problem?

Electrical, although you may have both. Look at your brake pedal, you'll see a sensor attached to the top of it

Is this a brake system WARNING light or just the rear brake lights?

The rear brake lights are turned on by a switch that is turned on when you push on the brake pedal. If it is broken, mispositioned, or your pedal is too low, you get rear brake lights.

If this is your parking brake light, that also is done by a switch near the parking brake actuator.

Parking brakes have nothing to do with the normal brake master cylinder. No parking brake light will come on even if this cylinder is dry as a bone.

The rear brake lights are not turned on by this master cylinder.

There is a brake system warning light that will come on if this cylinder is low on fluid.

That might be the parking brake. Is a fairly simple adjust.

Also could be one of the normal brakes, but you'd need to have it checked by a brake mechanic to tell.

Impossible to guess from the confused and incomplete information given.
