Transmission filter vs. screen

How much worse is a metal transmission filter screen versus a disposable filter made of fiberous material, both at filtering out particles and at reducing transmission wear?

define "worse". if you mean that it doesn't filter small particles which might slowly increase wear rate of bearings, valves, seals, clutches, etc., you'd be right.

but if you mean, like the manufacturer means, "detectably worse during the transmission's designed lifetime", then the screen is just going to keep the big chunks out and that's probably fine.

would a finer filter be "better"? sure it would. if it didn't affect flow rate too much. but the bottom line is that you don't own this casino - the manufacturer does. you get to play for as long as they let you play, and when you're done, you've either got to fork out a bunch more dough to sit back down at the table, or you've got to catch a bus home. their casino, their rules!
