I have a 93 3 speed auto Chevy Cavalier. The transmission apparently shift fine but when I go up a steep hill, and if I accelerate hard, the engine (or tranny) will give a loud, high pitch kind of sound and then it'll die down.
I check the transmission fluid and it seems to be fine. It's kind of brown, not dirty, but clear fluid. Seeing that I only have the car for two weeks, I don't know what type of transmission fluid the previous owner used.
When I sniff it real close, I can smell a slight burning smell. It's not really a burnt toast or bad egg kind of smell but more of a hot smell.
Since I heard peopel mentioning burning smell means tranny problem, I'm starting to worry a bit. But then I can't say for sure it's a burning smell because I have to sniff real close to smell anything.
Beside, I guess the loud roar the engine gives when going uphill is just because the tranny is downshifting on hard accelration. Is it possible or does it make sense to you? Thanks.
