Update on: 2002 Corolla - bad motor mounts at 23K?

Thanks for all your replies on my earlier post. Just to let you guys know, I took the car to another Toyota dealer and to a local mechanic, both said the motor mounts look fine. The rattle under load is still there intermittently, but given my concern that the 1st dealer might mess up something else in the car while replacing the motor mounts (e.g. on my original trip to that dealer, I had to wait 2.5hrs to get my car back because the tech working on my car had put my car up on the lift and disappeared! - no one knew where he went - or at least so the service manager said - doesn't bode well for quality work, eh?), so I've decided to just live with it for now. Motor mounts are covered under the 5/60 warranty, so if the mounts go bad before then it'll still be covered.

Thanks again for all your advice.

I took my 2002 Corolla into the dealer for diagnosis of an engine rattle under acceleration when the engine is warmed up, especially when the A/C is on (during the summer). Service manager says all 4 (?) motor mounts need to be replaced. Does this sound reasonable, after 23K miles? The repair would be under warranty, but it seems quite major surgery just to fix a little rattle. I'm also a bit suspicious because the service mgr also said the car needs throttle body cleaning, rear brake adjustment, wheel alignment, and ATF flush ("fluid is dirty" - but looks clean and pink/red to me..).

How does one diagnose a bad motor mount? Has anyone had problems with the motor mounts on Corollas 98-02?

Thanks much.
