My husband has been using ground pepper for minor radiator leaks. Has anyone else heard of doing this in an emergency?

Yup, many times including a week ago when my rad started leaking 25 miles from the nearest house while i=on vacation. It stopped the leak at the end of a core and made it back a couple hundred miles home.
I am going to remove the rad before winter and solder up the leaky core, but 'really' didn't want to have to do it on my camping vacation. (I carry the tools)
