$100 per ton.

You can take them to your nearest scrap yard.

True, but how expensive is it to recover the metal from the cat? How many cats do you need to collect before it becomes economic to recover the precious metal?

We're getting $40 per cat, more for the odd stuff like Toyota cast iron cats.

The recyclers come to us.

Wow. I didn't know that.

So what does the OP do if he's not in the industry?

Given the increased theft rate of catalytic convertors, nothing.

They steal cats? I thought the big theft thing was airbags.

Cats and Aluminum.

I get 50 to 60 bucks per Cat here in lower PA. Needless to say my Cat sales went up in the past year or so! LOL

Aluminum? Where I am it's copper. Thieves are actually snipping off sections of power line from electricity poles, lines that go to houses. I kid you not.

You get $60 a cat. What do fences get for airbags?

Usually 3 to 4 Franklin's for a basic, non exotic.

If I was a crook, I'd steal airbags before I bothered with cats.

Evidently the thieves that stole my sister's two airbags last year thought that very same thing. They were in and out in less than two minutes (locked car, alarm on). Major interior damage.

The couple slim balls that been stealing cats/alum around here wait till they see a nice pile of them at a junk yard/recycle yard and then go get um. Less work. There was one weirdo that got caught. They weren't getting piled up fast enough. Weirdo starts cutting them off with a sawzaw. Got greedy. Went back the next night. (insert Dragnet theme here) Cold, refreshing beverage played a small part in weirdo's actions. LOL

They said in the paper that it was copper. Might be the reporter just didn't know any better.

They will steal used cats if you leave them outside.

My neighbor leaves his two cats outside all day to poop in my flowerbed and damage the kids' blowup pool with their claws.

I wish somebody would steal them.
