woman needs car help

heres the problem I have a chevy caprice 1991 I have replaced the following plugs wires distributer cap, o2 sensor. It has less than 100,000 miles. Several problems have occured. Before I replaced the o2 sensor it was idiling high and would occasionally die and was missing out bad. The 02 sensor was badly rusted and I replaced it. Now when I drive and come to a stop it wants to die like it isnt getting gas. It also starts to idle funny at times. Could it possibly be the fuel pump or the fuel filter. Is there any other sensors on this make. Very cheap car but costing me a fortune in mechanics and being a woman with knowledge I feel that I am getting the run around. I have had a mechanic tell me it could be the computer and all sorts of things but has not found the real problem. where so I start?

try logging on to iatn.net. and see if there is a reputable auto shop in your local area listed and have your car diagnosed there. if you are intent upon do-it-yourself, then you did not mention replacing the rotor inside the dist.cap. (very important). also you can have someone gently remove your spark plug wires, one at a time, from your dist. cap while the engine is running and hold them away from the cap and then replace it and listen to see if it makes a difference in how your engine runs. you have to be careful though, it will shock you a little if youre not careful. if when you remove a plug wire and the engine remains running the same, then you know that that particular cylinder isn't hitting. you can then determine what your problem with each particular cyl. is. i would advise you to at least have the local hot
