04 Camry AC button flashing

I drove my 04 Camry on high water flood road. After I pass the road, the AC button started to flashing, and the AC automatically shut off. Thirty minutes later I stop my car and start again, the AC function came back to normal, and no more flashing. Does driving over high water flood road cause AC problem? Do I need to bring my Camry to service dealer to have it check out?

I wouldn't worry about it unless it begins to flash again. If it does, I would trade it in on a Yaris! hehehehe!!!

Probably a switch or something got wet. As you drove it, it dried off.

I would ask them to check it at the next service. But I wouldn't do anything if the A/C keeps working correctly.

Except, the next time there is flooding, I would not take make car near the flooding.

I doubt you did any damage, but you can by driving thru deep water.

If it were me, I'd make sure I didn't drive thru deep water any more....

proudly the water was making the belt on the ac slip because the water was up in the engine compartment. this made the ac stop working for a while. when the belt and engine compartment dried out the ac went back to normal. if the ac is working ok now i wouldn't worry about it but watch driving through high water , things could have been worse

The AC system has a sensor on the compressor that detects how fast it is turning. The system compares the compressor speed with the engine speed, and if there is a difference, it de-energizes the compressor and shuts the AC off, and flashes the light to let you know it has done this as a safety precaution.

In your case, when you drive through a deep puddle, the belt that drives the AC compressor can slip a little - sometimes you hear a momentary screech when this happens - and the safety system kicks in. The next time this happens, just turn the AC button off and then back on.

If the AC drive belts have more than 60,000 miles, you should consider replacing them as this will be a more frequent occurrence, and the belts can eventually break.

You're welcome!

Very interesting. Thanks for posting it.

You're welcome! There is also a TSB for the flashing AC light that is due to a bad AC control relay, but given the OP's description of events, I am pretty sure that the rotation sensor on the compressor detected slippage.

I had this same thing happen on an earlier model Camry. Water, belt squeals, lite flashes. Sometimes you could reset it and the lite would stop flashing and sometimes it had to dry out a little. Never took it to the dealer for any kind of check.
