08 Scion TC: $18500 OTD?

I can tell. One of the reasons I had such a hard time finding a manual tC for a test drive a few years back.

I don't know the numbers for tCs, but overall, in 2004, only 5% of all cars had manual transmissions.

Sad state of affairs. Amazing how it seems more complicated to drive a manual than to talk on the phone while driving. However it's some of these morons who are jabbing on the phone and weaving on the road. Saw that on I-95 heading towards Virginia today. Lady couldn't keep the car in her lane. I've noticed people who also drive manual trannies tend to be more conscientious and aware driver. Not always, but my personal observations...

BTW, interesting story. Back in '04 there was a youger guy at Norm Wagner Toyota who used to come here occasionally and post messages about tCs being available at the dealership. He gave his e-mail so I e-mailed him and asked where he was, and it was about 50 miles from here in a town I know fairly well.

We were playing a gig about 30 miles past there, so I called him and set up a meeting. As usual we were behind schedule so there was no way to meet him.

In 2006 I was looking for a car, and had pretty much settled on either a Civic or a 4 cylinder Accord coupe. They had the Accord sitting on the showroom floor at the dealer in town here, and it was going to take 90-120 days to get a Civic Si in, and then you were at the mercy of whatever hit the lot. So I had pretty much settled on the Accord coupe (they were willing to knock $1500 off the price since they don't sell well...).

About a week before I was finally going to make up my mind I drove the 50 miles out to the Scion dealer. The guy who was posting the messages here had left, but there, sitting in the lot as soon as I drove onto the lot was a silver tC, and when I looked it had the 5-speed. I had already made up my mind on silver, since if I want red, I want *RED*, and I didn't like the blue.

I took it for a 10 minute ride, went back to the dealer and wrote a check for the deposit. It is a 2005 and had 11,500 miles on it, so I didn't pay full price and still got a pretty new car. Just serendipity that exactly what I wanted was sitting right there waiting for me!

Yes, you were lucky! I'm sure it still did not depreciate much after 11,500 miles. You were looking at some of the same cars I was looking at when shopping. Ended up with the '05 Accord LX 5-spd manual, also in silver. I would have preferred the grey or even the dark blue if I saw/found one with the dark gray interior. Those colors only had the tan interior which I didn't want.

Also nice the tC doesn't have a timing belt to worry about. Then again, neither does my 4cyl Accord! The 6-cyl has the timing belt..

Same accident, in the Northbound lane, in the southbound lane one yahoo rear-ended (actually, submarined his car under the bumper!) the person in front who was stopped because of all the *other* rubberneckers, and another one ran into a sand filled barrier while rubbernecking *THAT* accident!

Amazing how others like to stare at someone else's misfortune isn't it? If this is human nature, isn't it amazing how long the human race has survived?

Um, sorta guilty. I try to figure out which one is (or if both were) the Moron.

LOL! Sometimes it's obvious and other times it isn't. Sometimes they gotta try to reconstruct the scene..
