In all honesty, the engine in the Paseo is NOT the one to mdify, although I have heard of people rodding Tercels up to about 170HP. But there is a lack of parts readily available, and I would not expect too much reliability.

I had toyed with the idea of adding the 3-series body kit to my Tercel, and then finding a 4A-GE from a Corolla GTS to pop into it. There are a LOT of issues to overcome; fabricating or modifying motor mounts, wiring looms, computer, etc.

All in all, sell the Paseo and buy a Celica or something. And again in all honesty, I thought of just what you're thinking MANY MANY TIMES!!! I had access to a really nice black Paseo with a blown motor, body MINT for $500 (a 98) and another red '96 that needed paint for $600. I was working at CarQuest and told my boss about it; he's 20 years YOUNGER than I am, and we went over what it would take. It's going to be a chore...

i checked for an aftermarket turbokit, but thats no option (too costly, because i'll have to inport from the us to the eu). neither is a celica, because i dont have the money to buy one :(

it'll have to work with a 1.6 corolla engine- or a 1.3 starlet engineswap (starlet wasnt imported in the us i believe) or tuning up my exisiting 1.5 engine (maybe there is in europe a turbo manufacturer??)

The biggest problem you're facing is that you have an "F" series engine. The F series were built more for economy. What you're best looking for is a G series engine, like a 2T-G or a 4A-G. They are a bit beefier in the rods, cranks, etc. I have an '85 GTS with a 4A-GE, I can work it, but i would do better with an '87 or later (heavier duty rods, crank, pistons, etc) The F series CAN be built, but all in all, start looking for a good G series as a basis. The F series 1.5 in your Paseo is about 92 BHP, a 4A-G starts at 112 and goes up to 130 before you get into it if you pick up an '88 or later. Again, you're looking at the loom, the computer, etc.

The Paseo was such a neat little car; too bad they stuffed the wimpy 5F-E into it. Would have been SO much better with a G series or at least a 2.0 L engine right off the bat...

The starlet motor you talked of is pretty easily ramped to 130 HP, maybe

150 and they do it all the time in areas where the car was sold, but i think you'd be looking at reliability issues.

Actually, no, I'm actually fairly crazy! That's how I had such an answer for you!!! ;)

I'm sure, if you REALLY wanted to, you could shoehorn a Ford 427 into this thing! It just comes down to how much you want to spend and what you want to do. As I said, I was considereing building up a '95 Tercel, basically the same car with a different body. If I had wanted to spend more for the mods than I did for the car, it would have been a screaming machine.

I'll tell you what I DID do: I put a cold air intake on it. It really didn't add to the horsepower, but it DID increase throttle response right off the line, and increased fuel economy by about 5 MPG. My next step was an exhaust, but I sold the car to buy a Supra. I still kind of regret it, but then again, I've only driven the Supra twice before putting it up for the winter. Come back in about 5-6 weeks for an update!!
