2004 Corolla problem

My daughter says that her bulb for her a/c button (???) doesn't light up when she uses her a/c inside the car. I'm not familiar right now what the controls look like and I'm not sure about her accuracy in describing the problem but I guess this bulb lights up the controls??? Is this a fuse problem or is there a way that the bulb can be changed without taking out a lot of dash board? thanks

Just to add to my earlier post above, I just got to see her car and there is a button to push to engage the a/c. However I tried it and it did light (inside/within the button) and I heard the compressor engage so I think she is wrong.

But if she was right and the light did not come on when you push the a/c button, does that mean the compressor doesn't engage / no freon??

Maybe, maybe not. There are many faults that can occur so the system does not work, loss of refrigerant being one of many. You would have to diagnose to a more in depth level which is fruitless on a hypothetical problem, but more of a study of a/c systems.

If the fan is in the off position, the bulb in the AC button will not illuminate when pushed, and the AC will not engage. Most likely, the system is OK.

My guess is that another setting on the temp/air controls was such that the a/c couldn't come on when she hit the a/c button.

Ray, I think you are correct. It seemed to look okay to me when I tried it tho I only did it once but once should be enough. I definitely could hear the compressor engage when I pushed the a/c button. And to my knowledge, her 2004 is in mint or near mint condition (low miles).

Your daughter's question is not that uncommon and used to occasionally come up at Toyota's customer relations department.

don't know but does sound like it. All I know is I tried it once and it seemed okay so the ol' saying is, "don't fix it if it's not broken" or "don't look for trouble" and I think I will do just that. When it happens where I can see it either with her or by myself, then I'll take care of it . thanks!

Whenever a female says she has a problem with a car I consider the source first. It is usually not the car that is the problem..

Let's face it, they have to put on 'make up' to leave the house...Making up for what exactly..? If only there was a 'brain' dressing they could apply..

You have a real knack for endearing yourself to females, huh?

CP, I'd love to comment on your post but if I do, I might get into trouble with the female gender (hint) !! I understand :) .

When I was an automotive tech the service writers used to go to town on 'em. At least their ignorance is good for business.

They'd come in with what amounts to NOTHING (but a desperate cry for attention) and they'd write 'em up big time... I'm sure they're still getting screwed that way..

Cathy, you didn't know CP is a real ladies man ?

Maybe in his imagination. ;-P What an obnoxious jerk. (IMHO, of course.)

Well, I may qualify for this too because sometimes my daughters (college age) or wife puzzle me too and on occasion I get upset for their lack of logic or judgement. Of course I'm outnumbered 3 to 1 so you know the pecking order in my house.

There is that fable about how everyone had to compliment the king's new clothes, when in fact he was naked. That reminds me of women's attitude in America these days.

It's all smoke and mirrors. Make up..? Artifical smells. What smell are they trying to cover up exactly..?

Living with a woman to get sex is like living with a pig to get pork chops...

Both are best kept outdoors.. At least out of 'my' doors...

There are many of my fellow males, including myself on rare occasion, who are illogical.

Yep. ;-)

Some females show use of logic, some don't. Most are probably in-between. I mentally slap myself upside the head when I realize I haven't been logical, but certainly should've.

Been there...done that...had my own Rubber Room over the garage...

I liked the one QSlim posted a few ago where a girl said the "Power Pedal" wasn't working anymore (she was referring to the clutch...burned it out

I think it has to do with the old adage, "which head were you thinking with..."
