94 Corolla left battery terminal (positive) becomes corroded frequently, any idea why?

I've had this problem for a good 5 years or more. Never figured out why this keep happening.

I'd say it happens in a month or two. Right terminal seems fine. Maybe it's the battery itself? Seems to work fine. About once a year the car won't start, and cleaning this off solves the problem.

Today I noticed it before it became an issue. Just wondering why it happens so fast?

I was looking for a Corolla newgroup, but was unable to find one. Post a link if you know of one.

Thanks

After cleaning the terminals really well, try applying some white lithium grease to slow any corrosion from building up again. In the past, I just applied a bit of Vaseline to the terminals and it did the trick. I don't know what others would have to say about that. The idea is to prevent air from getting to the terminals.

The corrosion is the result of acid fumes escaping from inside the battery case. If the case fits very tightly around the metal battery post, then the fumes escape slowly. If the case fits loosely, then the fumes will escape more quickly. Auto parts stores sell colored fabric washers that fit over the battery posts, underneath the clamps. This is one of the few gimmicky things that work well. You can also purchase battery post protectant the works like spray paint. Spray the area where the plastic battery case surrounds the post liberally, then put one of those fabric washers, and the problem should be reduced somewhat.
