94 Toyota Corolla timing belt update

I posted a few times over the past month regarding the 2 timing belt replacements I had done over the span of less than 2 weeks.

I had called the Customer Experience Center at Toyota to see if they could help me find out the name of the Regional Customer Relations Manager in Mansfield, MA and the guy wasn't able to find the name. However, he said that I could open a case with them and they would contact the dealer that I had the issue with. So, I did on Friday and I finally got a call back from the service manager at the dealer.

He apologized for taking so long to return my calls, but with the holidays and time off, blah blah blah he said he just let it slip. He then said that he wanted me to know that my perception of what happened is what matters, not theirs and that he wanted me to be happy in the end with them rather than someone who refused to use their services ever again and told my friends not to use them either. Next, he told me that he was surprised at how long the tensioner lasted from the very first time the timing belt was replaced 8 or 9 years ago. Then he said that his best mechanic had worked on my car back in November when the timing belt was replaced per regular maintenance - quite possibly the best Toyota mechanic he's known in the 30 years he's been at the dealer. Yet, it didn't matter if they were right - only my perception of the situation mattered.

So, I'm going to be refunded the towing charge, the rest of the labor cost and the cost of the 2nd timing belt. When I opened my case at the Customer Experinence Center, I had said that I was seeking a refund of the total of the 2nd bill minus the cost of the tensioner which I would have paid anyway if it had been replaced back in November.

I'm glad that the dealer was willing to work with me - whether or not I was right - and while I may never get back the warm fuzzies that I used to have for them, I'll continue to bring my car back there for repairs and maintenance.

Thank you everyone, especially Ray O., for the advice.

N.
