i have a toyota corolla that when i try to use the a/c it just blows hot air and the a/c switch light comes on but no air.i dont feel a difference in the idle like my other car what could this problem be and how hard is it to fix since in learning to work on cars this could be a project
The first thing you should check is whether the blower fan is coming on when you turn on the AC. The blower is under the passenger side of the dashboard.
If the blower comes on but the AC blows warm air, then check the sight glass in the receiver drier. The receiver drier is a metal cylinder mounted vertically in front of the radiator. There is a round glass window on top. When the AC is on, the AC clutch should engage and you should see what looks like clear water flowing past the glass. If the AC clutch doesn't engage, then apply 112 volts to the clutch solenoid and see if it engages and then look at the sight glass. If you see white foam, the system is discharged and needs to be evacuated and recharged. This requires a vacuum pump and should be left to pros.
