Avalon 98ish high mileage ?

I'd like to hear from some owners of high mileage cars tell us the mileage and what major cost items outside of normal mtc such as oil, tires, etc were experienced.

'97 Avalon with average to low miles, just turned 100,000 miles. Replaced front struts and strut bushings due to rattle, no other out of pocket expenses other than maintenance.

I got rid of a 98 Avalon with about 88,000 on it, and really had only one major out of pocket expense. About 37,000 miles I complained about a brake 'shimmy' when stopping and the dealer put on some new front brake pads free, after I complained that I was not informed of a recall. One other major outlay, that was covered by warranty was the computer that controls the auto air, temp control. It went out within warranty, but it would have cost a 'ton' to replace, I think. Another was the Oxygen sensors...one replaced under warranty, and then one went out about 70,000 miles again...that one cost me about $230 to replace. Non Toyota mechanic would only use a Toyota part which was twice as high as NAPA's but I went for it, as he wouldn't guarantee it otherwise. Naturally it was on the back bank of cylinders that are the hardest to get at to work on.

The above is about all the trouble I had with mine. Just routine maintenance costs on top of the above. A good car...I really liked it. Hated the 2000 body style and now have a 2005 4Runner 4x2 Limited and am pleased with it.
