clutch issues

Hi everyone,

I have a 2002 manual corolla (69k miles). I have just had my car's clutch changed and now it seems there is another problem. When the car is stopped and is in the first gear even when the clutch is fully pressed, it seems that the gear is engaged and the car is trying to move forward. It does not happen all the time so I have not been able to observe other gears. What could be the issue?

Thanks, Wajahat

Check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder and make sure it is not leaking. Do this soon before you burn out the replacement clutch.

How can I check the fluid level and the leaking?

I think the mechanic did test the fluid level of the master cylinder and it seemed fine but he was of the opinion that the leaking was internal and could not be checked. Though he was not sure.

Open the hood, and on the firewall separating the engine compartment from the passenger compartment, in front of the driver, are the clutch and brake master cylinders. The brake master cylinder is mounted on a large black disk that is mounted on the firewall. The brake master cylinder is made of translucent plastic, has metal tubes extending down, and has a black cap that specifies what type of brake fluid to use. Next to the brake master cylinder is a smaller translucent plastic reservoir - that is the clutch master cylinder. Both master cylinders will have marking to indicate proper fluid level.

If the clutch master cylinder is leaking internaly, you will probably have to bring it in to be serviced.

take it to a competent mechanic.

Is it possible that my mechanic while changing the clutch might have done something that was causing the leakage of the master cylinder?
