corolla buzzing noise

my 98 corolla sounds fine idle or driving at low speeds. However, in highway driving and in cold weather, there seems to be a buzzing sound coming from under the hood. It kind of sounds like a fan problem but the car runs fine with no other observable issues. Any thoughts on what the problem might be?

Fan, alternator, condensor (A/C), power steering pump, bearings.

Noises are difficult to diagnose without hearing them first hand and without more information.

Is the exhaust system a Toyota exhaust or aftermarket exhaust? Does the sound change in pitch, frequency, or volume with engine speed? Does the sound change in pitch, frequency, or volume with vehicle road speed? Is the sound metallic in nature or something else?

Buzzing sounds are most often from heat shields and exhaust systems.

I found that particular year was notorious for a loose top engine cover. A lot of people would complain about a buzzing noise, but only under very specific conditions, and that plastic cover that sits ontop of the engine was loose about 7 times out of 10. Sometimes tightening the two 10mm crown nuts that hold it down would do it, sometimes it wouldn't. I had more than a few customers ask me to just take the damn thing off and toss it.
