am i right that you cannot get an S model with alloy wheels except through the VP package, which also includes a rear spoiler? what if you want alloy wheels but not a spoiler, is the LE the better choice?

What prohibits you from getting aftermarket custom wheels if the alloy wheel option is your only concern. I'd go that route. The "S" model is the sporty model and the LE is the luxury oriented model, though the "S" is packaged somewhat inbetween the LE and CE.
