Damn repair manual is WRONG!

The clock doesn't work on my 2002 Sienna. The official Toyota Sienna Repair Manual says to check the DOME fuse under the hood. If the fuse is bad, replace it. If the fuse is good, replace the clock.

(I'm not about to spend $$$$ to have a new clock installed when I can get an LCD auto clock for under $5).

Then I discover that an intermittent short in my cell phone charger was blowing the fuses on both the cigarette lighter and the power adapter. When I replaced the cigarette lighter fuse, located behind a panel on the dash, the clock started working!!!

I wonder how many Toyota service departments would have solved this problem honestly.

Most of them, because they know that the clock and radio have 2 different power supplies. The power for the memory, supplied by the dome fuse, is always on, while the power for the display is a switched power supply.

I wish you could have suggested that in response to an earlier post, but thanks anyway for your opinion :

If the display for both the clock and the passenger seat belt is not working, then something behind the display is probably loose or broken. It is unlikely that it is the result of the recent service.

Sorry, that was a brain fade on my part. That's the problem with trying to remember everything about cars after midnight! I should have asked if the

12 volt power outlet was working and if you checked all the fuses.

I'm glad everything worked out.
