I just heard today that Toyota will no longer produce the Echo. Does anyone know if that is really the case? I haven't been able to find confirmation.

The Echo didn't sell to their target customers, that almighty 18-34 group. Highly insulting that we middle-aged types are so undervalued, despite being better able to pay for a new car than are the 'younguns'
:-P

Most of the Echos I see around here are being piloted by people 40ish or older.
Those "Smart" phone booths, uh, cars? I'm seeing lots of those, oddly enough, almost exclusively driven by 50ish and quite affluent-looking drivers. Apparently Mercedes is losing money on every one they sell.
Hope they're more reliable than the mini-cooper..
I like the MC, but don't follow it's track record. What problems do they have??

Ya, but we're even better able to pay for a $23k Rav4 than the kids are. The Echo ended up being dubbed "too practical", so the Scion was quickly built with "younger" styling in mind... appears to be doing well with the target age group.
So, technically, the Echo lives on, under the Xa and Xb skin :)

If you Google around, you'll find talk about engines and transmissions (5 speed). Pricey for what you get and it's not like there's a BMW on every corner. OTH, so far, they have no competition in terms of depreciation so it'd be cheap to try one.
Good observation! I was looking at picking up a used echo, but someone said the model was being retired, so wait for the new echo. I noticed the scions looke like echo(internially) with a nice hip shell. Good to hear others see the same.

Off the top of my head, I'd say the fact that they're British may have something to do with that. I'm an Anglophile (I really am!), but I draw the line at British cars and food - yuck!

And what's wrong with 'practical'? Geeze, if the car sells, WTF cares who it sells to?! That's my gripe
I'm going to have my Echo detailed to put the words, "Prototype Echo" on the bottoms of the doors.
The new Echo looks like a zillion other cars. I like the kooky design of the originals

... but their beer is good!

I'll take your word for it, since I hate beer LOL - well 'regular' beer anyway. I love Mike's Cranberry Lemonade and Bartles & Jaymes Marguerita coolers.

Every time I attend an old car show somewhere in the US, somebody is passing out flyers for an up coming British Car Show somewhere. I've never been handed one for a Japanese Car Show, curious.
As to the beer, as long as it is warm ;)

JJ, out of his mind.
Have you ever driven an Echo? It doesn't feel like a small car, which is one of the reasons we got it (Hubby's 6'1"). If you think the Echo is small, how come you wanted my FX-16's parts?
LOL

No, it's the MCC Smart that he thinks is....GEEEEZE! Which is exactly my response as well.
The Echo is large compared with the Smart. I know the Smart has passed US and Canadian crash tests and all that, but I have to say I could never consider one for myself. The front bumper is less than three feet from your face. No way. Uh-uh.
LOL... sold our 2000 to my stepdaughter when I bought my wife an '04 Rav4L for Christmas. She loves it. Not quite as sporty as the Geo Storm we gave her when we bought the Echo, but it's economical and she can actually get 3 friends in the back seat.
