Fuel leaking from the purge canister

Hi, my car is 1993 corolla. After driving a while, a lot of fuel is leaking from the purge canister, and it stops leaking when I open the gas tank cap. I can drive with loosing the cap and there is no leaking happen again.

I just replaced a new gas tank recently and I wonder if the leaking is caused by the improper installation of the gas tank?

Can anyone give me help to figure out what problems cause the fuel leaking?

Thanks,

Fred

Could be. There's two, perhaps three hoses to the tank. One is the high pressure line to the injectors, the second is low pressure return from the injector rail, and a third is the evaporative (purge) line. Get the last two mixed up (often the same size) and I'd expect a leak.

Hi SD, you are really an expert. Thing is just as you said. I sent my car to the garage today. After they switched those two lines, there is no leaking again so far. Although it needs to drive a while for further verify, I think the problem has been fixed.

BTW, since a lot of fuel went through the canister, I wonder if it would damage the canister or the valve or any other parts?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Best regards, Fred

The fuel may damage the canister, but probably not.

Thanks, Ray.

After driving for two days, everything is ok. The canister seems ok too since I didn't get any gas fume.

Thank you and SD again for your help, Fred
