HIghlander Brakes and Rear Axle Seals

I have a 2003 Highlander and already needed my brakes overhauled. I live up in Canada where there is a lot of snow and slush.

I am surprised that I into problems so quick. There was rubbing and grinding noise everytime I turned right. Toyota dealer says it is a common problem with Highlander and that the rear brakes are most likely rusted and needed an overhaul. They also machined the rotar at one corner because it was badly rusted. On top of that, they found that the rear axle seal needed to be replaced.

I would have thought a Toyota would be better than a Ford Exploer I had for

7 years. It took 5 years before I had any problems. I also ripped the vinyl on the inside door handle with a snow brush by accident. I did not think that it would tear that easily. In all, even though I like the car, I find that the car is made made with some cheap plastic parts. The letraset for the radio description is also fading. Not providing an under the hood light is bad too and should not happen on an expensive car. I have never had a car that did not come with that as standard.

I am satisfied with the car, but for the cost of the car, I would have thought it would be better? I may be picky though. Does anyone else have similar comments "beefs" about Their Highlander. My lease is up later this year, and am determining wether to keep it.

Nothing against your dealer, but did you inspect and verify these problems he said you had? Seal leaks may be in the eye of the beholder much like a rusted rotor. A little inspecting at home can save you from overzealous dealer repair shops.
