From what I have read, the hybrid engine usually does not run when car is stopped.
Can one of you hybrid drivers out there tell me if you can warm up the car on a cold morning before you begin driving?
Thanks, RV

Yes -- you can save gas by putting it in park when visiting the ATM. The Prius (anyway) is least efficient when just starting up.
Certainly. The gas engine comes on to warm itself up, because emissions are much lower from a warm engine than a cold engine. I park it so the hood is in the morning sun, which helps increase mileage during the warmup period.
What Bill says. Engine is off when stopped unless it needs to heat the emissions stuff (on startup) or you are calling for heat and it needs more of it.
It actually turns on the engine by itself as soon as the coolant is pumped back into the engine each time it is turned on (to heat the emissions stuff ) and thus can warm up the car at the same time if set to heat. Tomes
I hope more buyers would fall for the hybrid hype and buy one. That will save the gas for those of us that like to drive real cars. The only problem I see is, if the oil companies do not sell enough gas to make a profit they will raise the price. LOL

Go back to alt.autos.ford. Your ignorance will be right at home there.
Gawd!!And save FIVE cents, perhaps?

And then, turn on the A/C to cool off the INTERIOR of the car, resulting in NET LOSS of any savings by parking that way.
