Importing US Toyota to Ottawa -- HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,

Can you provide me with a list of US Toyota dealerships that will export a Toyota to Ottawa, Canada. Any other relevant information would be appreciated.

Thank you

No. Nobody in this newsgroup can give you a list. Your secretary doesn't work here.

What exactly are you trying to achieve? Do you own the car, and you're moving to Canada? Or, are you selling your car to someone in Canada? Either way, type the words "canadian customs" (without quotation marks) into a google search, and I'll bet the result at the top of the list will be an agency you'd want to talk to.

I am not aware of any U.S. Toyota dealers that export vehicles. You would have to purchase the vehicle from a U.S. dealer and go through the process of making the vehicle comply with Canadian customs, emissions, and safety requirements yourself.

Any idea where you live?

There are dealerships, but I am not certain, which one's at this point. I was hoping someone on the ng who knows about this topic would help me out.

Thanks

The information on importing a US vehicle to Canada is here:

RIV is the agency that contracts with the Canadian government to take care of cross-border compliance.

There is a substantial amount of information to wade through in the link above, and you must read it ALL.

Of substantial note when importing:

1) If there any outstanding safety recalls on the vehicle you are importing, you will/may be required to show proof the TSB issue has been dealt with and corrected before the car may enter Canada. This appears to hinge on the diligence of the particular border officials you have to deal with. 2) You will run into major problems with warranty coverage. Canadian Toyota dealers will refuse to perform warranty servicing, and will send you to a US dealer for that work. The US dealer may refuse to do the work since the car is not registered to a US resident.

It's best to just buy new cars sold by a dealer in your home market.

Are YOU moving with the car, are you selling it, or are you just trying to get it across the border for other reasons? If you're moving, you'll have no problems, I think they test them at Customs and slap a sticker on them (It's been a while, but it shouldn't be tough).

u need to check your inclusion and exclusion customs list which can be found online, canada has gov website listing with vehicles banned from being brought in and those that are not. To minimize the hassle, the car you purchase should be USED, not an untitled new vehicle. Strict rules deter dealerships from selling new to a Canada citizen for export into Canada. FEDEX has a car transport service which is very cost effective, however if urgency is a key element, forget them. They send it when they have a viable load, it may take days/weeks long time for them to have that. Only then does it ship
