OT Home Schooled wins spelling bee!

Snott does not have thoughts that complex. He wonders how he can hide the fact that his diaper is full, so the nurses won't come and change it and he can enjoy the warmth. But, that's about as far as his thinking goes.

Good point, another is the expenditure of time resources and time on specific tasks. Public Schools aren't likely to shut down the curricula for months to win a spelling bee. Home school is much more flexible about where its priorities are going to be in terms of time and focus.

Esp. not with the NCLB tests in palce! ;-P

Yes, I agree. Although both the teacher a school & the parent who's teaching a home schooled child need to follow & cover the curriculum for the grade level, once the child's gone from school, they're gone for the day - or weekend. You have to add in the possible available time at breakfast, the time after school & on weekends when a parent can also work with their child.

It's about parenting which is pretty much non existant in this country today. Teaching young children good moral values, respect, and discipline are critical whether they come from religion or another source.

I don't know if it's technically a requirement, but personally, I can't imagine working (at least not more than part-time) *and* finding the time & energy to do home schooling.

States are required to give standardized tests every year to public school students, but some states use tests that are much more lax than others, and all state tests showed better results than the National Educational Accessment of Progress (NEAP) test, by anywhere from 2% points to a whopping 71% points: The state that was second worst in NEAP scores, Mississippi, with only 18% of students considered proficient readers, claimed that its own test showed that 89% of them were proficient.

Results for all states plus Washington, DC:.

That's like asking how you can ever learn plumbing without taking a course in needlepoint.

Do you believe that in a house full of atheists, it is impossible to raise a child without good morals?
