I guess Bush who never commuted a death sentence while governor of TX, has come to the conclusion that some punishments are to harsh. The Lord does work in mysterious ways.

You're not refusing to answer because you don't like the question. You're refusing because you CAN'T answer the question. Can't you just be a man and admit that?

The jury should be commended for doing its job well, and Scooter, Cheney, and Rove should be put in jail for exposing a covert agent whose identity had been a secret from the public until after Cheney had it leaked. Scooter lied to investigators to alter the timeline of the leak and make it seem that Plame was first outed in the John Novak column, which she wasn't. And the CIA didn't initiate prosecution just because public information was made public again.

As a result of this leak, Plame's entire Brewster-Jennings CIA cover operation was blown and all its foreign contacts put in danger, including those in Iran.

... for Dick Cheney's pals. Karla Faye Tucker just didn't have the good luck to be one of Dick Cheney's pals. Tough noogies for her, huh?

Tucker Carlson interviewed then-Governor Bush about the Karla Faye Tucker case. Here's what he reported:

In the weeks before the execution, Bush says, a number of protesters came to Austin to demand clemency for Karla Faye Tucker. "Did you meet with any of them?" I ask. Bush whips around and stares at me. "No, I didn't meet with any of them", he snaps, as though I've just asked the dumbest, most offensive question ever posed. "I didn't meet with Larry King either when he came down for it. I watched his interview with Tucker, though. He asked her real difficult questions like, 'What would you say to Governor Bush?'" "What was her answer?" I wonder. "'Please,'" Bush whimpers, his lips pursed in mock desperation, "'don't kill me.'" I must look shocked - ridiculing the pleas of a condemned prisoner who has since been executed seems odd and cruel - because he immediately stops smirking.

I'd be more impressed with the commutation of the sentence if Bush had forbidden Scooter Libby from accepting any speaking fees, which we know will be how he pays off the fine.

Not so mysterious. Now the prosecutor has no leverage with Libby to get at the truth, so Cheney's safe. That was the real goal. They all know probation's nothing,. the fine easily paid by Dick's pals ponying up for speaking engagements and even a pardon can be arranged on January 19th,

2009, if necessary (there won't be any fuss after 18 more months, it was just urgent right now because we know what happens to guys nicknamed "Scooter" in prison).

Still, I recommend Bush grant blanket pardons all around as he leaves office, or the whole crew may end up doing time.

That's when Bush lost whatever support I might have been inclined to give him. Anyone, whether governor or not, has no right to mock a condemned prisoner. If he'd kept his yap shut then, I wouldn't have had such deep problems with his candidacy.

I'm with you on the subject of Scooter's 250,000 dollar fine. He'll never spend one dime out of pocket. and as for the two years' 'probation', unless he rapes a couple of nuns or holds up a convenience store with video surveillance, he's home free.

I think you should be put in jail for treason.

Sander Berger was convicted of actually braking the law and was only given two years probation. In the instant case no law was broken and they knew the leak did not come from the White House. A quarter million fine is even too much in this case.

How can someone be convicted of not breaking the law? I wonder how the judge explained this to the jury.

Had I did the same thing as Berger I would be in jail. The guy got off scot free. How about Armatige, he's the guy that blew the cover for that Plame dame.

what in hell are you talking about? berger got caught with classified documents, unauthorized removal. That is a serious offense. If you've ever had a security clearance you would know.

I was referring to Hunter's words "In the instant case....", whatever the hell that means. He's drunk this afternoon, so his posts are full of all kinds of interesting word choices.

We did not expect you to know that no law was broken in the instant case and nobody was convicted of outing anybody.

To make things worse the special prosecutor knew, before Libby was even asked to testify, that the so called 'leak' came from Mr. Armatage in the State Department, not the White House, and that the so called 'covert agent' was not a covert agent, by definition, but a clerk. Thus there was no law broken and nobody was charged.

On the other hand Sandy Berger was convicted of stealing government documents as well as perjury but fined on $30,000.

Not knowing the meaning of "In the instant case...." says a lot more about your level of education or intoxication than it does mine ;)
