Vandals have stolen the memorial Cross from its site in the Mojave Desert.
This Cross was at the center of a Church / State case that the government resolved by trading the one acre parcel for another parcel within the Mojave National Wildlife Preserve. It is common that private parcels will be surrounded by state or federal lands in parks and forests, so trading a private parcel for a public parcel is a reasonable solution for issues raised in this case.
Now, the vandals will incur the wrath of Veterans everywhere. I'd hate to be the vandal that shows up at the scrap metal yard with this Cross, and a Vet buying scrap metal.
