Placing a mat under a drop-in bedliner

I have read so many comparisons between the drop-ins and spray-ins that it's making me sick. I recently purchased a 2004 Tacoma Xtraca (best truck I ever owned) and it does not have protection in the bed. I have been going back and forth between Rhino (spray-in) and Penda (drop-in).

The biggest complaint I hear about drop-ins is the damage done to the bed from the liner rubbing on the paint. Why can't this problem be solved by placing a cloth or rubber mat under the liner?

This would stop the rubbing and may reduce road noise. What'ya think?

Thanks,

Eric

A cloth mat would hold moisture, which would lead to rust. A rubber mat would have the same effect as the bed liner itself. An alternative is to apply a coating of lithium grease to the bed before installing the liner.

it is a truck, you expect some damage. my choice would be to line the space with gripmat then put in a drop in liner. take it all out and clean once a year or so.

I'm with cheerful. If we're so concerned about keeping a pristine finish, we should probably be driving family vans rather than trucks! jor

Yeah, not too concerned about the damage it may cause down the road anyway. Just find it interested that there is such a debate between the spray on and drop in. I have changed vehicles every 2 years anyway (mostly due to wrecks or major repairs).

Thanks for the suggestions anyway.
