Re: OT Anybody trying magicJack?

I thought it was too good to be true, but perhaps not.

No, I haven't looked for a VOIP solution - Don't do much inter-LATA or interstate toll calling. Use it for a few months and report back.

I've been standing on the sidelines as a judge decides whether Vonage lives or dies on the various patent infringement suits. No sense betting on the ponies while the results of the last race are being challenged, and the eligibility of half the field to run future races is in doubt...

I'd especially like to know how it handles overseas calls - many foreign telcos won't give IP connections or accept local POTS trunk connections from VOIP companies terminating the toll calls, because they aren't getting their hefty cut of profit on every call.

Skype is far cheaper particularly when placing Skype-to-Skype calls, and allows video conferencing.

Spring for ten bucks, download the software for Mac or WinBlows. Go online and open an account for ten bucks, which never goes down in value should you confine your calls to any other Skype user worldwide.

We use it to keep in touch with my daughter and son-in-law. The video helps when you can't see each other very often.

Good stuff.

I also have Skype also and find it is ONLY cheaper if you use Skype to Skype calls which I tried to get my wife to use to no avail but she uses Magicjack with no problem (I think it's because she can use a regular phone). For video conferencing I use Yahoo Messenger.
