Restoring the Override Function to Toyota v7.1 Navigation Program

Since we got a Toyota with a navigation system on Monday, the first thing I did was to figure out how to override the lockout which prevents address entry while the vehicle is moving. This was no doubt a lawyer inspired feature, which keeps anyone, even the front seat passenger, from putting in an address while the vehicle is moving.

With v5.1 of the software there was an override on a hidden screen, but this was removed in subsequent versions. You can restore the override function by making a new DVD with all the files from your current DVD except one file that you need from v5.1.

I put up a little web site about it at "

Or buy Coastal E Tech's lockpick.

I looked at that. Basically for my vehicle they have no solution. For other Toyotas they don't even mention the hybrid DVD solution. Nor do they mention the hardware solution.

Seems our friend here was smart enough to figure that out, buy not smart enough to save a bunch of money by NOT buying a navigation system in the first place ;)
