The Truth About Toyota Engine Oil Sludge

I'll guess & see if I win something: Black stuff with the consistency of almost-cured silicone sealer mixed with dust, built up in the corners & edges of the cover, preventing normal oil circulation along the length of the cover.

Close enough. The black stuff will have the consistency of tar.

I've had that in every car I ever owned! Never had a problem...

And then what?

I don't know - I was guessing. Aren't the covers made in a shape that might improve oil circulation? If the insides get gunked up enough, it seems it would impede the circulation. Admittedly, my theory is based only on years of looking at other things that circulate liquids, like blenders, dishwashers, and parts of my outboard motor.

If there is black stuff the consistency of tar underneath your Supra's valve cover, then, as we used to say in the car business...

You're f*#^+d

Lucky for you, that will not be the case. :-)

I am guessing a certain amount of oli, lik you say, is going to get places it can't get away from, and start to gel. Someone once said to look inside the oil cap...every oil cap I've ever had has been sludged!

Yeah...the 7M-GE had it's share of problems, but sludging wasn't one of them!

This was actually a smart decision on the part of Toyota. Even though it is going to probably cost them as much or more than fighting it out in court, and *possibly* losing, the beauty of this is that ALL plaintiffs in the class action get the same renumeration. Brilliant! So, if our friend who keeps posting here was one of the original plaintiffs, she is going to get NO MORE than the last person that signed up.

Ususally, the "Named" plaintiffs (and, of course, the Lawyers) walk away with their pockets stuffed with cash, and everybody else gets squat. The more plaintiffs enroll in the class action, the more the Named plaintiffs and Lawyers stand to gain. But in this settlement, if What's-Her-Face has a ruined engine, she gets a new engine...just like everyone else...

I dislike the class action law suit scam. For a really sad case, look for the details of the Split Fire Spark Plug Class Action Settlement. I recall that the class members got one or two free plugs and the right to buy more Split Fire Spark Plugs at a discounted price (but still higher than actual quality spark plugs). The attorneys got millions. Exactly how much they got depended on how many people redeemed their discount spark plug certificates. A real deal!

I recently got notified that I am a class member in some BS suit against UPS for overcharging shippers. I can hardly wait to get my free bag of Styrofoam peanuts - or whatever.

Personally I am thinking about starting a class action against Hostess. I was shocked when I found out Twinkies weren't health food.

They're not??? Twinkies and red Twizzlers are the perfect road food.

I'll admit I laid off of Twinkies for a while when a friend told me about an incident at the Hostess plant next to his plant. A large outdoor tank of white stuff with the consistency of a milk shake (presumably an ingredient in the filling) emptied in the parking lot when a pipe leaked one summer. By the next day, the stuff smelled so bad that the friend closed his shop and gave his employees the day off while a hazmat team dealt with the spill.

That was around 5 or 6 years ago, and am happy to report that I had some Twinkies last week when I drove #3 son back to school :-)

Apparently (what I hear through the local news) milk is a really serious waterway pollutant. It's basically fat and insoluble in water, so it sits around, rotting and poisoning things. A local farmer spilled a large load into a waterway so the water company clobbered him soundly with law-sticks. (Usually it is the water company in the dock. )

I don't know if the white stuff at the Twinkies plant was milk or not. Oddly enough, I met with the supervisor at the waste water treatment facility for a nearby suburb last week to get information regarding waste water discharge for a prospective client. The supervisor was kind enough to explain how all the stuff that gets flushed down drains and toilets gets cleaned up. He also mentioned an incident where the local supermarket suffered a power outage, and they poured a hundred or so gallons of milk down the drains. The heavy concentration of milk, I think he called it a "slug," eventually made the treatment plant have to take special steps to deal with the milk.

Speaking of milk, there was a report several years ago that if one replaced the instances, where those that drink milk into the data base that used smoking as a cause for cancer, the cancer rate jumped up dramatically LOL

Is that why you fought to remove milk out of school cafeterias and have it replaced it with cigarettes (mild Camels, of course)?

I never smoked, but I've seen camels in zoos in my day and they all seemed to be mild
