Toyota Prius Bugs

"CNN/Money/Tech reports that 2004 and early 2005 Toyota Prius models have software bugs that cause them to stall while traveling at highway speeds. While no accidents were reported to have been caused by the software glitch, could we be heading into an era where our automobiles will require software updates and fixes to keep them from literally 'crashing'?"

Even Toyota makes POS vehicles!!!

Calling it a POS is over the top. A Prius is a very complicated vehicle with sophisticated software. However most current generation vehicles can be "reprogrammed" and more than a few even have required "reprogramming" to fix some sort of concern. The complaints about Priuses are so few, I can't imagine this is an extensive problem.

Ed, just did a software update today, customer wait. Was a whopping 20 minutes. Easy fix, required no tools. ;D

Not really, their recent 5 speed electronic transmission has been subject to multiple patches to get it to eliminate a dangerous hesitation. My 02 ES300 has finally gotten a patch that seems to work well, but it's 3.5 years after I took delivery of the vehicle. Granted the American makers wouldn't have persisted to fix it, but it's still frustrating that it took them this long to properly engineer their ECU. This is the same technology that is going into the Toyota models, so hopefully what they've learned recently will be applied across all Lexus and Toyota lines.
