Toyota RAV4 2006 Remote Start Installation

Hi,

I am thinking of getting a remote start installed in my 2006 TOY Rav4. Would installation of products such as Viper, by non-dealers such as Best Buy, void any warranty on the vehicle?

Thanks, G

No, except if it can be shown to have caused a failure. I actually have experience with this. I had a Saturn Vue with an aftermarket remote starter. It developed a problem under warranty and the dealer's service department called me and told me they thought the remote starter was involved. I told them they could disconnect the remote starter if they thought that.. They did - and it had nothing to do with the problem. On the downside, I got the remote starter stuff back in a box (which wasn't a big deal since the thing was junk).

If it was my car, I'd go with the Genuine Toyota Accessory instead of the Viper. That way you'll get a remote designed for your vehicles (or at least with the right instructions) and if the dealer has it installed, no possible warranty hassles.

Installation of aftermarket products will not void any warranty on the vehicle, unless the aftermarket product or installer damaged the vehicle.

I am not a fan of aftermarket remote starters and security systems because they have a relatively high failure rate compared to the vehicle, and remote starters just waste fuel.
