GENEVA -- The first results of Toyota's project to build a sports car powered by Subaru's boxer engine will be seen about two years from now, according to a company official.
The product planner, who did not wish to be named, said that the model was set to be launched in Europe in 2011, and that it would contest the market "at around the level the Celica used to occupy."
The Celica, which disappeared from Toyota's range in 2005, sat below the Audi TT in price.
No official details or name have yet been given for the sports car, which has Subaru's rally-pedigree engine at the front, driving the rear wheels. The transmission is mounted in unit with the rear axle for optimum weight distribution and handling, said the source.
