Toyota Uses Incentives to Sell Tundra

Toyota Motor Corp. is using incentives to help sell its redesigned Tundra pickup truck, including a program that provides dealers with three $250 coupons for every regular cab truck in stock, The Associated Press reported.

Dealers may apply the coupons in any combination, the Detroit Free Press reported last Saturday. During the launch last month, the newspaper said, the Japanese automaker was offering low-rate financing and lease deals that were extended into March.

In a truck segment where incentives are common, Toyota wanted to stay competitive, spokesman Bill Kwong said.

Toyota's incentives for the Tundra are at the low end of the truck segment. Incentives on the Tundra averaged $1,647 per vehicle in February, according to data compiled by Edmunds.com, a research site for car buyers, AP said. L&MT

Does that include leftover '06's?

Poor Toyota; they'll make hardly any money at this rate. Not. They could write off the entire $1.5 billion they spent on the Tundra plant and still make on the order of $12 billion for the year. Not that that's possible, they will use the factory for something else, if necessary.

Even with incentives, the Tundra still costs thousands more than the better built domestic trucks, similarly equipped. ;)

As someone else pointed out in another thread "cost to drive home is much different than cost to own".

I know we're talking about trucks here, but since you're the automotive expert, maybe you can answer a question: Why do 2-3 year old Chrysler mini-vans stink like 30 year old Chevy Blazers?
