Who here has a tC?

I remember someone saying he gets his best mileage ~2,500 RPM.

i ran the car a 3,000 RPM as pften as I could since the last fillup, and the mileage was 29.87 MPG. Close enough to 30 for me!

FINALLY got past 27!!!

I've been refining the Scangauge and my best mileage in town is on the slower roads (35mph) with no traffic lights, 37MPG. No AC. I notice that windows down/up, sunroof down/up doesn't make a difference. About 3-5mpg difference between AC on and off. And no difference when headlights are on or off... but it shouldn't anways b/c 1hp~=700watts and 100 watt bulb would only be using .14hp. At cruising 35mph, the Scangauge reports 20hp being produced. The headlights would only be 0.7% of the total power output of the engine at that speed.

I average about 28-30mpg in the city and 32 highway. Not bad for a car rated 20/27. Mileage actually goes up during highway traffic jams due to the slower speeds.

Are you driving auto or manual? The auto seems to be geared a lot taller at the top end hence probably the higher HWY mileage on paper.

WHAT?!?!?!

I have the 5-speed, and am surprised my mileage isn't higher.

Of course, maybe if I didn't try to get to 40 MPH ASAP...

If you imagined an egg tied to your right foot, instead of an anvil, it would help. Jack rabbit starts benefit only the oil companies.

Where's the fun in that?!?!?!

This car is a WHOOP to drive! I'm not *complaining* about the mileage, but I always got over 30 with all my other Toyotas (except the Supra...even my Junkyard Ready Celica GTS got 32!)

Then again the "Hachiroku" (Corolla GTS) which was also a quick car only had a 1.6L engine. The tC has a 2.4...

If it makes you feel any better, wringing it out nets me around 22 in the city. I keep it under 2000rpms most of the time and the instant feedback of the scangauge really helps keep the mileage on the positive side of 30. I'm also driving in Florida, so no inclines to speak of. The car generally gets ~40mpg going about 35 with no increase or decrease in speed and no head or tailwind. If you speed up or slow down you're going to get some decrease in mileage.
